Dr. Leo Philipp Schmidt & Dr. Hanna Michel - Valle Venia Founders
Dr. Leo Philipp Schmidt is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand surgery and pain treatment who embodies the Renaissance ideal as a multidisciplinary artist. Beyond his medical practice, he is an accomplished painter using the ancient Glaze technique, a sculptor working in various materials, a composer of classical music, and an architectural designer who unites function and form. His creative works have earned international recognition, including nominations for the German Record Critics’ Prize, with his compositions performed by artists worldwide and his paintings featured in television programs.
Dr. Hanna Michel is an anesthesiologist specializing in pain treatment who brings a holistic, human-centered approach to her work, influenced by her role as a mother of three daughters. She focuses on the philosophical, ethical, and international aspects of Valle Venia’s vision, serving as a producer, screenwriter, and dramaturge for the collective’s multimedia projects. Her expertise in both medical science and artistic production enables her to bridge clinical practice with creative expression, making complex therapeutic concepts accessible and meaningful.
Together, they founded Valle Venia and lead the MVZ Pain Center, where they pioneer B.A.S.S. (Bridging Arts, Science, and Society)—a groundbreaking initiative that merges artistic performance with clinical care. Their interdisciplinary approach combines deep relaxation techniques, self-hypnosis, visual arts, and music to enhance healing, with documented results showing improved quality of life and reduced pharmaceutical dependence among patients. Their philosophy draws from neuroscience research showing how multisensory therapies activate beneficial neural pathways while emphasizing the transformative power of creativity not just for individual health but for social systems and global wellbeing. Their work extends globally through the Children in Pain Foundation, providing both medical and artistic support to children suffering from chronic pain.

“Breaking down boundaries between science, art, and philosophy is central to our mission. We aim to spark deeper understanding of who we are, the systems we move within, and the structures that must evolve—on both small and large scales. We believe in learning to dream again and to be amazed again.” – Dr. Leo Philipp Schmidt & Dr. Hanna Michel
